ACT-VETube - Activated Clotting Time

Activated Clotting Time

Test applicable to: Dog and Cat

Sample: Whole Blood

ACT-VETube is an in-clinic screening test set for measuring the Activated Clotting Time in the dog and cat. By using a standardised in-vitro coagulation screening test such as ACT-VETube the veterinarian is able to differentiate between the different haemorrhagic disorders knowing the Actived Thromboplastin Partial Time (APTT) and to treat coagulopathies immediately under practice conditions. This assay detects all coagulopathies except the isolated factor VII deficiency in Beagles, Klee Kai and Alaskan Malamute.

The Blood Clotting Process

Blood clot formation is a complex process. The clotting proteins, or factors, circulate normally in an inactive state as precursors to coagulation. In principle, a series of reactions occurs in turn and acts to catalyse the next reaction, hence the common term ‘Coagulation Cascade’. The coagulation cascade is divided into extrinsic and intrinsic systems that merge into the common pathway. The intrinsic and common pathways are assessed by either the Activated Coagulation Time (ACT) or Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT).
