Description

Feline Leukaemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus

Test applicable to: Cat
Sample: Whole Blood, Serum and Plasma

FASTest FeLV-FIV test is based on a rapid immunochromatographic technique. Extracellular FeLV-Antigens and/or FIV-Antibodies in the sample will form specific antigen-antibody complexes in the sample area. Lateral flow (migration) towards the FeLV and FIV Test areas (marked ‘T’ on the slide) allows these complexes to bind with gold particles labelled with monoclonal FeLV antibodies and synthetic FIV-Proteins to form a pink-purple Test line. A correct test procedure will be indicated by a second pink-purple line in the Control area (marked ‘C’ on the slide).

Why Test?

Why is it important to test for FeLV and FIV?

Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) are associated with a wide range of clinical diseases including various infections, anaemia and tumours caused by their ability to damage the cat’s immune system. Persistent FeLV and/or FIV infections can be present in clinically healthy cats. These cats can potentially infect other cats and, in the case of persistent FeLV infection, may not live more than 3 years. Thus it is important that every cat that is brought into the surgery be tested for both FeLV and FIV, including those for FeLV vaccination (AAFP Guidelines 1).

Symptoms

What are the symptoms of FeLV-FIV?

Clinical signs are progressive deterioration of the cat’s health which can be interspersed with periods of relatively good health.

In the early stages of the FeLV infection, it is not unusual for cats to show no signs of the disease at all. Some signs may appear after months or even years after the infection

Some signs of FIV may not appear for years after the infection.

Dear Customer,Vetlabs Logo

we would like to provide an update regarding ongoing market cost trends and their impact on our pricing.

Global market conditions have continued to drive sustained increases in direct costs, significantly affecting the entire supply chain. As a lot of the products supplied by Vetlab Supplies Ltd are polymer-based plastics derived from oil, fluctuations in oil prices and associated raw material costs have had a direct and considerable impact on production costs.

We have continued to make every effort to absorb these increases and minimise their effect on our customers, however, due to the ongoing nature of these issues, we have no option other than to implement an adjustment to our pricing & discounts on affected products from immediate effect.

Please note this will not apply to existing stock & will only be applied to new stock received at the increased price.

We would also like to emphasise that we will continue to closely monitor raw material and market cost developments. Should conditions improve, we will review our pricing accordingly and consider potential adjustments, including reductions where possible.

Thank You for your understanding.
