FASTest CRYPTO Strip – Cryptosporidium
For The Detection Of Cryptosporidium Parvum Antigens
Test applicable to: Small Animals, Companion Animals and Farm Animals
Sample: FaecesCrypto Strip Test Principle
The FASTest CRYPTO Strip contains two unique monoclonal antibodies. Positive faeces samples contain Cryptosporidiosis parvum surface antigens (SA) as well as all of its vegetative cycle forms. These antigens will react in the conjugate pad area with mobile monoclonal Anti-Cryptosporidiosis parvum-Antibodies (Anti Cryptosporidiosis parvum.-mAb) which are bound to red latex particles. Migrating along the nitrocellulose membrane these specific antigen-antibody-complexes are bound from fixed Anti-Cryptosporidiosis parvum-mAb at the Test zone producing a more or less red Test line. This Anti-Cryptosporidiosis parvum-mAb guarantees a high level of specificity for the aetiologic detection of Cryptosporidiosis parvum.
The Correct Test Procedure
The correct test procedure is provided by the occurrence of an intense blue Control line at the Control zone. The intensity/width of the test line depends on the concentration of Cryptosporidiosis parvum surface antigens in the test sample volume. Therefore, FASTest CRYPTO Strip does not depend on the presence of intact Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts or its other vegetative forms.
FASTest CRYPTO strip is a valuable on-site tool for the diagnosis and treatment of Cryptosporidiosis in a wide range of animals.

Why is it important to test for Cryptosporidium?
Cryptosporidiosis (Cryptosporidium parvum) is an important protozoan disease causing diarrhoea in many domestic animals and synanthropic species e.g. hedgehogs and reptiles, as well as humans (zoonosis).
Cryptosporidium parvum most commonly causes problems in calves and, together with Rotavirus and Coronavirus, is responsible for neonatal diarrhoea which can lead to economic losses.
Cryptosporidium parvum has also been reported in dogs (particularly young dogs less than 6 months old), cats, hedgehogs and exotics – especially those which are under stress or immuno-compromised.
What are the symptoms of Cryptosporidium?
Clinical signs are diarrhoea (which may appear watery and loose)
- Depression
- Colic
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
