FASTest Anaplasma an immunochromatographic “lateral flow” test using a recombinant, highly specific peptide for the fast and reliable detection of antibodies against Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Anaplasma platys in whole blood, plasma or serum of infected dogs and horses.

Anaplasmosis is a bacterial tick-borne infectious disease. The agent, Anaplasma phagocyptophilum, mainly occurs in the northern hemisphere and causes granulocytotropic anaplasmosis. The disease occurs mostly in dogs or horses but other mammals and humans can also be infected.

Symptoms

What are the symptoms of Anaplasmosis?

Symptoms are sufficiently serious to cause concern but once correctly diagnosed the disease can usually be quickly and effectively treated.

Clinical symptoms of Anaplasmosis are:

  • Apathy
  • Stiff muscles
  • Fever
  • Polyarthritis with joint pain
  • Swelling
  • Lameness
  • Weight loss
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Anaemia
  • Petechial haemorrhages
  • Increasing inflammatory values (CRP, haptoglobin)

A subarachnoid haemorrhage could also lead to central nervous disorders.

Most horses will show metabolic acidosis, oedema, laminitis and coffee brown urine.

Mortality rates in dogs and horses are low.

The cause of thrombocytic anaplasmosis is Anaplasma platys, which occurs worldwide and the infection can have the following symptoms:

  • Mild fever
  • Uveitis
  • Petechiae
  • Ecchymosis
