Why Test?
Why is it important to test for Avian Influenza?
Avian Influenza or ‘bird flu’ is a highly infectious disease which affects a wide range of avian species and can be spread worldwide by the spreading of the type A strains of the influenza virus otherwise known as Orthomyxoviridae.
There are 15 known subtypes of the virus affecting birds and thus provides an extensive reservoir of influenza virus which circulates in bird populations, therefore making the FASTest AIV Ag Test kit ideal for detecting all subtypes of the virus on-site and quickly.
Symptoms
What are the symptoms of Avian Influenza?
The clinical symptoms of Avian Influenza can develop suddenly and can strongly affect the bird.
Symptoms can include any of the following:
- Blood nasal and throat discharge
- Green diarrhoea
- Cyanoses
- Oedemata in the head region, comb and wattles
- Change of colour in the thighs and feed due to ecchymosis
In some cases of Avian Influenza, it can result in the death of the bird, therefore testing of the bird is advisable as quickly as possible.
