Description

Qualitative Detection Of  Rotavirus Infection

Test applicable to: Companion Animals and Farm Animals
Sample: Faeces

The FASTest ROTA Strip contains two unique monoclonal antibodies. One of these monoclonal antibodies is bonded to Latex particles, the second is immobilised in the Test zone of the strip.

Rotavirus Antigens

If the stool sample extract contains Rotavirus antigens these will form an antigen-antibody complex with the Latex particles. As this complex migrates along the Test zone of the membrane to the immobilised capture antibody, a red line is formed indicating a positive test result.

The remaining conjugate migrates to a second antibody on the Control zone of the test strip forming a blue line. This indicates the proper performance of the test. The colour intensity varies and is dependent on the number of antigens in the sample.

Why Test?

Why is it important to test for Rotavirus?

Rotavirus is the most common cause of severe diarrhoea (gastroenteritis) in young humans, domestic animals and birds. It is one of the primary causes of neonatal diarrhoea in calves (along with Coronavirus, Cryptosporidium spp, E.coli spp and Salmonella spp). Affected animals develop severe diarrhoea, leading to dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and acidosis. FASTest ROTA Strip allows the veterinarian on clinical grounds to reach a specific diagnosis. The rapid identification saves time which can be used to suggest management strategies that will prevent further outbreaks of the disease optimising farm animal’s health and farm productivity.
